During an economic crisis, such as the global recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, even strong businesses can be hit by a domino effect that can wipe out entire supply chains.

Businesses in Thailand can work towards minimising the risk of insolvency by looking for early signs of businesses in trouble, taking preventive action and protecting accounts receivable through tools such as credit insurance.

To protect your business from credit risks:

What is Trade Credit Insurance?

Trade credit insurance protects your business from the risk of non-payment by your customers.

Benefits of credit insurance:

  • Peace of mind. You know that your business should be safe, possibly even if your biggest customer fails to pay you.
  • Business growth. You can explore new markets and engage with new customers, both locally and internationally, to grow your business while minimising the risks.
  • Fluid cash flow. Many businesses choose to pay suppliers with credit insurance first, as this can help their own credit profile. As a credit insurance policy holder, this could support your accounts receivable and minimise your days sales outstanding.
  • Business intelligence. Credit insurers monitor the economic health of markets and businesses. You can benefit from this knowledge and insight to protect your own business and to maximise potential opportunities.

How credit insurance works

Your credit insurer will assess the credit risk of the customer or contract you wish to insure and offer a credit rating. Once covered, your insurer monitors your customer and the market aiming to inform you of changes that could affect their creditworthiness. If your customer is unable to pay your bill, your insurer may first seek to recover the debt. This may be amicably, through agreed payment plans, or through legal action if necessary. Your credit insurer will reimburse the collected debt or will pay you what is owed according to the terms of your policy.
